        Women's Health Primary Care

hi thank you for joining us I'm your host nada Yusuf as we continue our celebration of women's this month we are putting you first by talking about women's primary care primary care women's health provides ongoing support and education that our female patients need in order to manage changes that occur throughout their lives and I featured expert for this topic today it's director of primary care women's health dr. Laurel appalled and before we get started please remember this is for informational purposes only and not intended to replace your own physicians advice thank you so much for being here today thank you for having me sir if you want to just introduce yourself to our viewers sure I'm dr. Laura lip old I'm a family medicine trained physician and I completed a fellowship in women's health and I'm director of a program here at the Cleveland Clinic called primary care women's health and we're a network of primary care physicians who really have a special interest and competency in providing health care for women across the ages great excellent ok so I want to kind of talk about first the difference in risk factors and symptoms in women and men and how that plays a role in a woman seeing a primary care physician or a woman's health specialists you know the difference in the two and why we should be seeing women's health primary care physician so to start off with question is so we know that women are biologically different than men for a lot of different reasons they have different hormones they have different body makeup they have different fat composition they have different enzyme levels for all of these women for all these differences there can be some differences in terms of how diseases impact women versus men how they present what symptoms they may have what their prognosis may be and what treatments may be more specific or better tailored for them sure so then Part B I think talking a little bit more about when it's appropriate to see a primary care woman's health physician right so we so we can take care of really a broad spectrum of women's health needs we also can provide gynecological care typically the non specialized non obstetric will care for women so for example if a female has some type of GYN malignancies meaning the cancer or if they're having complicated gynecological issues they may need to see a specialist in GYN or if they're pregnant that would not be appropriate or within their scope of care that we do provide for example we can care for a lot of things like osteoporosis managing menopause contraception screening taking care of their diabetes addressing their depression and addressing their sleep concerns okay wide array of things so to me as a patient what are the benefits of having a primary care woman's health the physician so the real benefits going to be one-stop shopping so for women who really like to receive their care in one place with one provider that's really going to be the real benefit of that whole picture it could be a family thing too if you have daughters absolutely absolutely and so for those of us especially family medicine physicians who do provide primary care women's health Scopus services we have the benefit of seeing multiple generations of women in the same family now do you get to collaborate with other women's health specialists with your patients as well sure and especially here at the Cleveland Clinic we have the benefit of having a lot of specialists and subspecialists in women's health so for example we have if we identify a patient of ours who could maybe benefit from preventive Women's Health cardiology we can make that referral if we have a patient who can maybe benefit from seeing somebody in under chronology who has a specialized women's health care need we can do that and we certainly collaborate very closely with our OBGYN colleagues as well excellent great now do you offer a yearly pap exams as well so we do offer annual preventive care for women okay and certainly with our guidelines that may not necessarily require an annual Pap test but that is one important service that we can provide and I think another benefit of seeing a primary care woman's health provider is that you're really going to minimize overlapping visits or preventive care and so instead of seeing both your ob/gyn and your primary care doctor for preventive care needs you can see just one doctor once a year Oh beneficial now can you talk about those important vaccines and screenings that women need and maybe you may not be aware of sure okay so when we think about some important screenings we do obviously think about things like cervical cancer screening and often we see some at times confusing changes as our as our understanding of risk for cervical cancer valves so those guidelines can change and so sometimes it can be difficult to keep up with that so again touching base with a primary care physician and seeing them annually to see if you need to have that pap or you need to have that HPV test at that year or not breast cancer screening is also a very important thing and again our guidelines have been evolving with that one too as well it's also very important to keep up to date with your other screenings so screening for cardiovascular risk factors screening for diabetes is also really important okay great I think I didn't touch on the vaccines yeah so in terms of vaccines important to remember that you know clearly vaccine vaccines are important for children as they are for adults there are not too many gender differences as far as our vaccine recommendations just a subtle difference with the upper age of limit with the HPV vaccine but outside of that really no significant gender differences as far as recommendations but still important to keep up on them okay speaking of children how young are you seeing those patients yeah so as a family medicine provider I have the benefit of seeing my patients as young as newborns so we call yeah we called womb to tomb scope with services that we do provide so that's wonderful and then internal medicine primary care physicians they may be able to see women as young as about 16 years of age okay so as a female patient how do I know from a care woman's health specialist is right for me and one do you think it's appropriate to go to a specialized physician and that's a yeah that's a really good question so the way I like to think about this is ultimately we want women to see the right provider at the right time in their life so if they are of childbearing age and they are you know trying to become pregnant you know or maybe in between pregnancies thinking about having another child that might be the time that they're going to be following with their obstetrician or if they have any specialized GYN needs they're gonna be following with their gynecologist but if they're beyond childbearing and they do not have any specialized gon needs so maybe at the age of 45 and older that might be a good time to really stick with your primary care woman's health provider for your annual preventive care and addressing all of your other medical needs okay now are there any female patients that you just could not see you would not see no we're primary care providers so everybody every we don't turn anybody away all right great thanks a lot okay so I have a list of issues and I'm a female patient so I want you to clarify to me in the audience and see if I should be seen by you or go to a different specialist and then feel free to elaborate let's talk about menopause because there's I know there's premenopause there's post menopause and and so do you do we see you for that sure and so that's that will be appropriate for a primary care woman's health provider I will say that not all primary care physicians may feel as comfortable addressing some of these women's health issues and so there may be times that a primary care physician may refer you on to a woman's health specialist but for those of us who do feel more comfortable who are primary care woman's health providers menopause is a very common thing that we can help women kind of help guide them through and help them manage that okay how about vaginal pain or bleeding mm-hmm so often we can do the initial evaluation and often can do the initial workup for maybe some abnormal bleeding or pain but then quite often too as well we may need to rely on our GYN specialists for further evaluation and treatment okay so you'd be able to see them and do the initial screening list and then to refer them on correct that's fine osteoporosis so osteoporosis is another medical condition and women that we very comfortably can treat as well primary care women's health providers it is and sometimes there may be more medically complex patients with osteoporosis where we may need to refer them on to our bone specialists okay great and what about Ethan flexions so that's a very common condition that we can treat okay bones and other commonly vaginal infections as well what about like STDs there anything and that's something that we can appropriately treat as well correct excellent how about cancer ovarian cancer yeah so that would need to be in the hands of a GYN oncologist okay fortunately right and here at the Cleveland Clinic we've got really a great team of Joanna colleges that we collaborate with on and then with sleep mm-hmm I know that we do sleep studies and there's all kinds of extensive stuff that we do but would you see initially for someone that's having sleep apnea sure and I think primary care physicians are well positioned to identify sleep disorders and to really manage the complexities around that too as well that's so great and then I have hypertension so hypertension is our bread and butter so by all means I think hypertension is a really important condition that we can monitor and that we can treat so often some of the primary care women's health providers may also be following women who are thinking about getting pregnant so they can provide pre-conceptual care for women who are on medications for certain chronic conditions like hypertension and so they can maybe assess well maybe this is a medication that would not be appropriate if you're trying to get pregnant so let's make that switch before you do try to come get pregnant and then once they do become pregnant they will be in the hands of an obstetrician likely a high-risk obstetrician and then during the postpartum period they're going to come right back to us too as well so we're going to follow them during that spectrum excellent excellent so speaking of following you know your patients adolescent care you know transitioning a girls adulthood is this something that you would be seeing for absolutely and that's another that's what I really see is really gratifying part of my care when we do see younger women as they're starting to become more independent and starting take more responsibility for the healthcare and they're transitioning from adolescence to adulthood it's really it's it's a really great opportunity to help guide them through that so we often it's family medicine physicians we help them transition to that now if it's a pediatrician that they're following with adolescents is a very common time where they're going to start to talk to them about transition to an adult care provider so we often do see that they are making that transition to adult care provider whether it be a family medicine provider or an internal medicine provider Maxon now let's say I drop my PCP my primary care physician I'm coming to a woman's health primary care mmm-hmm what's different what is the biggest difference what's gonna be my initial appointment that's may be different than I you know internal medicine physician you know I think when I think about the service that I provide women I do provide a very comprehensive preventive care visit okay so in addition to approaching the general prevention screenings looking at blood pressure looking at lipids looking at glucose I will do a bone health assessment I will assess their breast cancer risk I will be able to very carefully look at their history cervical cancer screening and really develop an appropriate tailor plan based on that I often provide a lot of education around the natural transition from premenopause through perimenopause postmenopausal time period I can provide a lot of counseling around that too as well and I can provide contraceptive services if needed to as well great anything you mentioned counseling as well mm-hmm so there's counseling also in this service sure great well I'm getting some live questions so I'm gonna switch off here I have a Randy pap smear how often for women over 60 should have it okay so the current recommendations are for women who have not had any pre cancer conditions of the cervix or cancer of the cervix and if they're between the age of thirty and sixty five our preferred screening is Co testing and that's a pap with HPV and that's to be done every five years as long as things are normal you do have the option for doing a pap by itself without the HPV every three years now women after the age of 65 can safely exit from screaming again as long as they've had routine normal screens before then and they haven't been treated for any cervical pre-cancer or cancer now when you say code testing that's that's you're saying that's a pap with h of HPV correct correct okay let's talk about HPV no cause meaning cuz I feel like I'm hearing a lot about I'm seeing a lot of small commercials can we talk a little bit about that other misconceptions should every woman go for her HPV screening how and how young should a woman get her HPV testing so as I mentioned HPV as part of a cervical cancer screening strategy should not be initiated before the age of 30 as it stands with our current recommendations I think that's a great point because it's not that uncommon when we're doing the screening where HPV testing may turn up positive I think it's I always count to my patients remind them that HPV human papillomavirus of the cervix is actually very common we know that 8 out of 10 women have been exposed to HPV and the natural history that we learned a lot about that over the past couple of decades is that when they're exposed it does take your body's immune system probably out bout one or two years to actually put that virus in check and so it really puts it into remission while it's there we're just being very careful to make sure that it's not really causing any problems with the cells of the cervix as we can detect with the Pap test okay now if I'm 30 and over and I'm getting my PAP exam should I mention it so my physician or is this something that's just like a part of screening yeah it you know it is really accepted as a national standard to incorporate that with the PAP again as I said every five years but you certainly again want to probably be fully informed and know what tests are being done right and insurance companies we haven't really had much pushback at also usually insurance companies are pretty on board with that altogether there may be government payers may have maybe a little bit more stringent sometimes but for the most part we're not getting too much pushback okay great all right on to the next question I have Kimberly is osteoporosis more common in women yes osteoporosis is much more common in women it does occur in men and they have different risk factors so for women the strongest risk factor is going to be being postmenopausal and that's because we have lower estrogen levels when we're done with our periods and estrogen naturally helps to support the bones coolie men don't have that however men can have low testosterone conditions which can cause osteoporosis too as well but clearly because every female ultimately goes through menopause we clearly see a lot more osteoporosis now in menopause I'm gonna kind of touch on that sure not knowing because every woman is different with the symptoms when it comes to menopause what should women look for what kind of symptoms should we be on the lookout for to belike you know I should see someone for for this mm-hmm versus I'm just going you know through age sure sure um that's a really great question so I I think a lot of women do understand and know that hot flashes are a very common part of the menopausal transition and being postmenopausal sure they can be they can be very severe at times and they can really impact quality of life and I think women sometimes feel like well this is just a natural process I just need to live through it I think a lot of women may not realize that very effective treatment ie hormone therapy is a that most women are going to be a candidate for that if they are within five or ten years in menopause and we see at that point that usually the benefits significantly outweigh the risk so there are effective treatment options that are available for women who are experiencing really moderate to severe hot flashes I have Stephanie what menopause concerns should women be aware of as they get older sure so I we mentioned osteoporosis so thinking about bone health it's a very important thing to as well sure the other interesting thing we've seen is that when women are postmenopausal and we again believe it's because of lower estrogen levels that actually does at that point significantly increase their risk for cardiovascular disease so being aware of that and being aware of your cardiovascular risk factors is a really important thing especially at the time and when you're postmenopausal sure sure great Thank You Melissa everybody is always tired how can I know what is normal and how do I know if it's a sleep disorder right that's a really good question I can be c2b thyroid I mean there's so many things right absolutely yes I'm gonna kind of probably put this in the context of perimenopause and post menopause okay so I mentioned hot flashes so that's the most common symptom that most women do experience during that time period I also want to acknowledge that a lot of women also experience a lot of sleep disturbance during the perimenopause and post menopause a time period and subsequently some fatigue associated with that and some weight changes hormone therapy actually can be very helpful to improve sleep quality and there's often left's fragmented sleep when they go on hormone therapy so that can sometimes help with the fatigue and the quality of life with the hot flashes and then we we also do know that in terms of the weekend I often acknowledge that with patients who are going through menopause it's a very common reported symptom unfortunately hormone therapy doesn't necessarily treat the weight gain issue but at least you can bring it up to your primary care physician your primary care woman's health physician and then develop a little bit more of a strategy to approach the weight all together so so those are common very common symptoms that are reported however it's also very important for the physician to make sure that we're not missing something else back to the the point of the our viewer we do want to make sure we're not missing something or thyroid disorder or anemia or maybe depression or something else okay great and then with the sleep disorders that can get pretty complex too as well we'd want to investigate that further and make sure we're not missing something like Russ's like some syndrome or OSs obstructive sleep apnea sure sure okay Thank You Lynne as I've gotten older I don't seem to sleep as much as I used to is that normal so that great question so we actually do see that there are normal changes in our sleep cycle that are age-related so as we get older we do see often that we require less sleep and the bottom line is if you are you feel like you're getting less sleep but as long as you're feeling rested and you're getting through your day and it's not impacting your activities during the day that's really okay okay I want to actually ask you about thyroid because I know thyroids brings on the symptoms of being really tired and thyroid disorder can you talk a little bit about the symptoms of that what you should check for and it's something that we can check ourselves or how's that work sure absolutely so common symptoms of an underactive thyroid and there are two ways that a thyroid can be off it can be under active or can be overactive in common symptoms of an under active thyroid could be fatigue could be constipation could be noticing that you're losing more hair could be brittle nails could be dry skin could be problems with cold intolerance and in women who are still getting periods it could be menstrual irregularities too as well and you were pointing to your neck and I'm guess sometimes often but sometimes women may actually notice too as well that there might be a change in the actual thyroid gland which sits right here at the base of the neck and some women might actually start to see that that's getting a little bit puffier or swollen or might feel something may be pressing pressing a little bit or maybe some difficulty with swallowing so sometimes those could be symptoms or notable changes with an enlarged thyroid so if you're experiencing any of these symptoms or constellation of these symptoms you may want to talk to your doctor about you said those are the underactive what is overactive so overactive can be a different one too as well sometimes there can be overlap but generally speaking overactive thyroid symptoms could be feeling more heat intolerance sweating more easily feeling often more hot with normal activities could be maybe some weight loss I forgot to mention with under active thyroid we see weight gain but sometimes it can be the opposite with an overactive thyroid sometimes I've actually seen women gain weight usually we think about weight loss sometimes tremulousness feeling a little bit more shaky again menstrual irregularities can be a common issue with that too as well maybe feeling maybe more diarrhea so there's more common symptoms and uh Nancy has a question hello my patients with osteoarthritis who is also dealing with neuro sarcoidosis and pulmonary sarcoidosis who went through menopause at 35 and have been on prednisone since 2005 how often should I get a bone scan so that is a really good question this would be an example of somebody that we may need to be thinking about seeing a bone specialist okay you've got two major risk factors there premature so pretty early menopause and that would also that's another area that we'd have to confirm that that's truly the reason why you might have periods and then being on chronic steroid therapy so I definitely think about you maybe some being in the hands of the bone specialist with those two significant risk factors great Jennifer hello Kent i beez levels or blood sugar change after surgery yes it can absolutely and Sherine can you test for menopause while on birth control pills that's a really good question so a very common treatment for perimenopause it's kind of step back so when I say postmenopausal what I mean is that year 12 months without a period okay so you know we might see senior changes right and so some of those natural changes that lead up to that we can see that period starts to space out and often during the time that period starts a space out is when hot flashes are typically kicking in altogether and to help women ease that transition we may put them on a low dose birth control pill and we might put them on a low dose birth control pill as long as they don't have contraindications in their later 40s even through their early fifties to kind of get them through what would be the typical age of menopause which is around the age of 50 - sure so how do we know if they're on low-dose birth control pill that they're done with periods yeah so sometimes we can use clinical symptoms to help us out so they may say well I'm no longer getting a period when I'm supposed to doing that placebo time period I'm starting to get hot flashes during those sugar pills so that could be a helpful indicator if we really need to know for certain we're gonna have you to we're gonna typically have you seven days off of your active pills maybe check a blood test and that could be helpful too as well so you might be able to do it clinically we might need a blood test once you're about seven days off of your birth control pill okay and then a follow up to Shane's question is there a test for menopause so it most often is a clinical diagnosis as I said the true definition is really twelve months without a period typically are the symptoms of hot flashes that are part of that too as well and then we would feel pretty comfortable making that diagnosis but for example if somebody no longer has a uterus we can't use the periods to tell us where they might be with that and we maybe really need to know then we could do a blood test cuz I know I've looked with the IUD birth control some people don't get anything maybe even spotting but some people don't get anything at all speaking of birth control how do you know what is good for you without trying all of them I know I know there's one that you insert in your arm my friends how there's an IUD there's the pills what what do you recommend to patients are how do you it is a very individualized approach and that's and that's really an advantage that we have so many different options nowadays the clear advantage is that for women who maybe have medical conditions that may limit what they can use I mean it's nice nowadays we often do have some options that we can even find something for them that'll be a best fit if so if one doesn't work out the effects you can always switch defensively right and I think you know traditionally most people think about birth control pills really being the option in the United States it's probably the most relied on method of contraception when there are some you know some really some great options that are out there and not birth control pills and are actually frankly more effective too as well right okay great excellent and I have Patty is there anything you can do during pre menopause to help prevent osteoporosis so we do know that getting adequate calcium intake is really important for bone health and nowadays I think our thought is is that the best way to get enough calcium is for your diet because your body absorbs is the best that way some women may not be able to and may have to take a supplement up to what they need we think also getting adequate amounts of vitamin D is important too as well so your doctor may recommend a supplementation getting weight-bearing exercise is really important too as well some some women who may have menstrual irregularities or may be on medications that can be associated with bone loss may be talked may have to talk to their doctor about how to minimize those risks too as well okay excellent and then Diane wants to know can you explain what fibromyalgia is so far my algae's a type of condition that we do not we cannot make a diagnosis with a blood test it is a pain condition we understand that individuals who are affected with fibromyalgia probably have often sleep issues they're a part of it so addressing sleep issues when you have fibromyalgia is a very important thing to as well it's probably a complex interplay with the neurological system and the musculoskeletal system as well so when we're talking about managing some of the pain fibromyalgia sometimes we do use medications that sometimes we use the neurology to it world as well sure is that there's something like an infra inflammatory diet anti-inflammatory diet would work with with that kind you know I have had patients who have had a good response with anti-inflammatory diets for a lot of painful conditions including fibromyalgia yes and then I have Marcia with a history DVT our hormones allowed so with a history of DVT which is a blood clot yeah often we are avoiding a specific hormone combination and it's a combination of estrogen and progesterone okay that could be thrombogenic meaning that is thing that could promote blood clot formation for some women using progesterone alone without the estrogen may be an alternative but you would have to talk to your doctor about that okay excellent and Morgan my daughter is 12 and what age can I transition hurts a primary-care women's health specialist so that is really going to be I think based on the comfort level of your daughter comfort level view yourself discussion with her current health care provider so I think everyone's a little bit different in terms of when they make that transition if it's an internal medicine primary care woman's health provider they may say well I might be more comfortable taking them around the age of 16 or 17 it's a family medicine position we see again we see individuals of all ages so we'd be happy to see that transition so anytime that they're ready exactly exactly right fine and then stuff can you be on birth control for too long I've been on it for over 10 years so that's a really good question one thing that we may not the individuals may not hear enough about is are some of the non contraceptive benefits of birth control pills okay so we do know that birth control pills can decrease the risk of ovarian cancer and probably and probably endometrial cancer so there is not too long the time period that you really need to be on a birth control pill and as I said often women were using them at older ages through 40s and early 50s compared to when we did a couple decades ago to really help the women ease that transition through menopause so we're often using them longer too as well now is birth control used for endometriosis to keep it at bay is that correct it is it is one of the first-line treatments for endometriosis there is no cure for endometriosis is so endometriosis so we do think about birth control pills we do think about using other pain medications per se and sometimes there are some surgical treatment options are available okay and then I'm gonna ask you one more question here now I hear a lot of people that say I've been on birth control for like 15 16 years I'm gonna have a hard time getting pregnant is that true good question no it's not true it's not sure no no it's not no yeah so usually so we've been on a birth control pill when you come off of it your ovaries wake up soon as when they wake up usually they wake up within about a week or two I hardly see it take too much longer they do take a little bit longer but it's really not going to prevent your ovaries from waking up okay no I'm just I'm just throwing out what I'm hearing for my friends but is it bad to skip periods with birth control another really good question so actually seeing more advantages with doing the extended cycle regimens number one because you're taking away some sugar pill intervals there's less opportunity for there to be in Oh wake up of the ovary and ovulation we do a little bit of a longer extended cycle regimen we're really more successfully suppressing ovulation so you think it might be a little bit more effective when it comes to contraception um and for women who are headache sufferers especially if they get headaches around the time of their periods doing the extended cycle regimens could be a really great strategy to really minimize some of those headaches too as well okay in keeping in mind the way that a birth control pill works it keeps the lining of the uterus really thin so you don't need to worry about how often you're getting the period it's not harming the uterus okay excellent I have one more question okay before I let you go Garza wants to know why do some women go through menopause early I was 32 that's a really good question and there are probably a lot of us as primary care physicians if you do go through it at that pretty young age meaning under the age of 40 we may need to refer you to specialist to try to figure that out sometimes there can be autoimmune or genetic reasons why that's happening okay so it is actually an important thing to not only recognize but then also to figure out why that did happen and the other important thing too as well and we do know that individuals who do go through menopause at a really young age as we've mentioned about estrogen supporting bones are a significant increased risk for us to prosess and fragility fracture and so we actually really do look if appropriate to try to keep them on some type of hormone whether it be a low dose birth control pill through the age the average a from the age of menopause typically about the age of 50 to protect bones and to protect the heart too as well great great okay well that's all the time that we have for today before I let you go anything else you want to share with our audience then maybe we haven't touched on and we talked about a lot I think we did talk about quite a bit so I think there a lot of benefits to seeing a primary care women's health provider and we can actually help direct you in terms of your care and if there are times where you need to see a specialist whether it be a woman's health specialist a  specialists or an obstetrician or any other woman's health sub specialist we can help guide you through that excellent thank you so much for being here thank

middle anyway so here we are and this is their third life m site lab that we are conducted for you the first one in English hopefully going to go great and we'll get lots of interest from you all we've had quite a few submissions in advance and we have selected quite a few websites to take a look at we have some people within the audience with us already so that's great this is  she's an AdWords account manager and this is andre you said master ablation strategists will be looking at the websites that were submitted in advance trying to provide some practical tips on how to make them a little bit more mobile-friendly a little bit more secure a little bit more relevant for your users hopefully those tips will be interesting for you the recording will remain on the webmasters youtube channel those of you watching us live I welcome to maybe ask additional live additional comments and maybe ask questions on the G+ page for this event I presumed us how you found us those of you who've joined we have three guests since to be right now that's also can obviously ask follow-up questions in our chat as well you're very welcome to do that and I think that I board had a question thank you i don't have any questions the now ok great awesome what great having you guys so um right let's let's give it a shot well as i said we'll start with the websites or the people who are in the studio with us Valley board correct me if I'm wrong but I think your website is the is the opponent's couple dots easy right yes yes great ok so I'll put it on the screen share it with everybody y'all still use so everybody knows what the hell we're talking about and what's going on and hopefully we can go from there right so we're looking at that all online loans website so let's go I don't think we had any questions in advance from the labor of his colleagues about this website so i presume you know the obvious looking to solve any particular issues but you did leave us a couple of queries that you would be interested in we'll come back to that in a second but another thing I should have said in the beginning we're not going to look at all the issues for all the websites is going to get quite boring very quickly right so what are we going to try to do is we're going to focus on some issues for every website on different issues not hopefully for every website allowing everybody who is watching us who's joined us to understand all the possible things that could be improved and maybe take a look at them for their website as well right so yeah to be aware of everything that could go wrong but also to get specific advice for your own website as well here in the sample of the websites that we looked at it seems for us particularly interesting to take a look at the page speed lower kinds of the website page speed is on the one hand one of the ranking factors for Google search so we do look a little bit at how fast pages are loading when we're deciding which pages to show to our users in the search results but that shouldn't be your primary concern your primary concern should be that our research not just our research shows that users do tend to prefer fast loading websites and a lot of the time they abandon websites that download a lot very slowly how can you check that there's plenty of different ways of checking the speed of your website as as a whole or of your pages in particular one of the tools that we've developed for you is PageSpeed insights hopefully you're seeing it on your screens right now can enter it doesn't analyze the whole website that's important it analyzes whatever page you give to it in this case we started with the homepage by the way before we begin to the problems and the way is to dress down I want to say we're really impressed overall with the quality of the websites submitted for the cycling majority of the websites out of all the 300-plus submissions that we had a really high you're really interesting all of them had something unique to offer so that's really great to see it's really inspiring the issues that we find is is as I told my colleagues before this again you can find issues with any website any website everywhere always have some sort of an issue so us addressing particular problem doesn't mean that oh my god the website is horrible and it's not going to rain oh it's not going to be high quality the fact that we found an issue doesn't mean that it's in a poor state it just means that there are some things you could still improve in this case let's talk a little bit about your speed particular through this tool you can check the speed for both desktop and mobile but we're going to focus primarily on the way this is seen by mobile users the tool allows you the tool gives you specific remedy recommendations it gives you a number here right which you shouldn't probably pay that much much attention to the more important thing other three ranges of the rebbe the orange and the green green being great orange being not so good and red being pay attention to this stuff and then what you also get is not you're not only get a breakdown of the issues you could fix but you also get specific recommendations and the games you will have if you follow these recommendations for example the first one we see here is enabling compression and then you have specific scripts as you can see if case you have a couple of images I see some SVG is here I see some Java scripts in fact I see your homepage here just the basically the basic HTML on the page and it tells you exactly how much volume you could say by compressing this and as you can tell it's in this particular case it's over 2.7 mix on a standard 3g connection this much data could take seconds to download potentially dozens of seconds but at the very least upwards of five this is because this could become a critical make a break point for your users who are just loading this for the first time don't have any of your content cash and have to load all the resources and there's some fairly easy tricks in at least compressing the JavaScript and here you see that the lightest gains the sort of the 1.3 mags and 1.1 max the really big gains come from your JavaScript and you can look up a few easy tutorials or easy tools to minify your JavaScript online and just use that you can hide these details and look at a couple of other things that are reasonably easy to use let's look at some of the stuff in the orange section right for this particular website it might not be such a big deal but with we're going to see a couple of others today and in general a lot of websites a lot of e-commerce websites use quite a few images on their webpage so another not least significant element that could bring a lot of economies in size is image optimization so again here you don't just get a line saying oh going up to my dream just you get a breakdown of the specific images loading on this page that you could work on to make them slightly smaller gaining back but a bit of quite a bit of time in loading the page so here this were really some of the key elements that we've found for the website that we wanted to talk about on the plus side some of the really good stuff really the recommendations that you manage to follow quite well I don't know what they were reading our recommendations or whether you just did it the right way anyway but it's great and I'd like to point this out for other people to think about as well as number one you guys have implemented HTTPS so I know you are a financial service so it seems like a no-brainer but you will be surprised how many financial services still don't implement secure connections it's definitely something that we recommend to everybody who exchanges crucial private data with the users but also in general to everybody else it is also great to see I'm going to show it to you director that you've avoided so you've chosen a version of your website with the www to appear as the primary one and when we enter your website without it it redirects us to the proper that the dubbed version so that's an important piece to set up correctly and you've done it and that's great so we see directly in the browser window both that the redirect happens well and also in chrome in particular but also other browsers you can really easily detect if your certificate for the https has been detected as valid and correct right if you click on that green section to the left of the address you'll get some information about the certificate and the connection in this connection is private so those two things in particular setting up the redirects between the different versions of your website and using a secure connection are really great and that's really great for your users both mobile and desktop devices and your users on any kind of class unless the other one has questions I think we could move one maybe to the next website I'm seeing something in chat no nothing at the moment all right so don't hesitate by the way guys guys for with us don't hesitate to just turn on your mic and ask a question at any point i think the other website that we had here within the next website that we had here was a Vulgarian website about travelling astral travels and seeing a strap on a strong holidays right website your beautiful pictures well you know the word isn't so bad and up in our lot of you anyway you know so we'll see did I where is it let me assure us Joe yeah was let's open it as well what's open mobile Europe okay great I did have it open sand wedges I a deficit right so also something I didn't mention before even if you haven't if you don't understand what the hell am i doing and then what am i doing in particular in chrome how am I getting this screen if you haven't seen this before these are so called developer tools you have them in chrome you have them in Firefox you have them in the majority of Modern advanced browsers who support this they allow you to do a lot of very interesting things but in particular in this instance they allow you to emulate the experience of mobile users on the website so you can launch developer tools and you can go into a mobile emulator the particular here it's real easy it's just one click of a button and you go from a desktop experience the mobile experience and without even having a mobile device with you although I don't know who doesn't these days you could much more much more easily sort of look at your website the way of mobile user so i highly recommend getting familiar with this even if you know they develop or even if you're just a website oh no or the marketing specialist for the website gives you a great opportunity to see what changes in your mobile experience are happening how they're happening and so on so the first thing that strikes me and again this emulator is not perfect so you might want to double check this particular each issue on am on a mobile on them on Election smartphone but I sure if you look at this this is slightly weird right what we see on the homepage right so we can if we don't really see the content of the website on the menu right so maybe you want to take a look at that from usability point of view again it's not a major thing that's going to affect your ranking or anything but it's definitely something I will try to figure out why is it displayed like this why is all of your content post below the fall below the first screen so something to keep in mind and again as I said checking the way your website works on an actual smartphone or even in the emulator is definitely something you need to do now and again just to make sure that you avoid see the small things like this we have a couple of other things right then we've noticed about this particular page so I'm going to be loaded once again just to make sure that we're not missing anything I'm thinking write that on the second load we actually got redirected to your m dot website and i remember now and this was an interesting point that your for some reason on the first load that version didn't know so just to gay again make sure that the way you've set up your redirects and normally a couple of options you can do here it's totally fine to have a separate website for mobile for example on a subdomain like m dot that's great google sees that Google understand that now what you really need to be careful with is how you send people from one version to the other and there are different ways of doing this basically you want to be looking at the user agent coming in we want to see what sort of user agent it is what you really need to make sure is that the list of user agents that you're focusing on is comprehensive and covers all the devices so you do need to pay attention to that so for example you're not forgetting three direct iOS users right or Android users or something like this and really read up on this and cover your bases we have a quite a bit of information about this on the developers website developers google com so make sure that you got this thing going directly because here now with the redirect where should you see a website displayed quite differently see all your text has become larger the buttons on large everything is much more clear to see it's optimized for the mobile experience right there's not that much here in addition that you would need to do and in fact if you haven't actually shown the guys the store so maybe it's no now it's a good time if you put this web page and you put it into our mobile friendly testing tool which leaves at G that call / mobile friendly you would also see that it passes all our assessments and does it correctly an interesting thing here to do will be not just to put your m dot website but also to put your main home page to make sure that the redirects also fall directed by our tools not gonna wait for this to finish the load we're going to get a nice green result saying that everything is everything is fine and everything is working i'll make sure it's loaded all right so great we see the correct version here we're saying awesomeness pages mobile-friendly an interesting point here is that we see that the few resources have been blocked in this I mainly images that I'm seeing that are being blocked from crawling by Roberts of different but in this particular case but Google's robots it doesn't really make much sense you know it makes sense for Google at services JavaScript to be blocked and form a different javascripts of other heads ad networks and analytic tools but you blocking your own resources on your own website such as images or the scripts and the tables that you use to create the content on your side will display the content on your website doesn't really make that much sense in this particular case it doesn't harm the evaluation but it might so I might want to take a look at your robots.txt and make sure that the stuff that you are disallowing from being crawled actually makes sense right and is there for a good reason and not just because it's a legacy from you know some previous site manager who put it there for no particular reason what I would definitely address here is then again this is not a financial services website unlike the other one but this is a service provision website so here you're definitely engaging users and trying to get them to conduct the transaction potentially a financial transaction or commercial transaction pay you money basically so it is really a good idea to start thinking about implementing transport layer security which will then allow your website to display on HTTPS protocol it is it can be free you can pay for a certificate but they're also free certificates Google does not care if your certificate is paid or free as long as it's valid and there's plenty of online services that allow you both to get a certificate and to check the validity of your city so again I'm making a big point of this because it was a big thing on desktop it is becoming an even bigger thing on mobile more and more of our additional features more and more of our and not only our but also other Internet companies and Internet services features de pensar depending on secure connections so rather now than later would be a good time to switch if you are switching think about doing it in stages think about switching pass at your website first to see that everything works great remember to tell Google about the switch in search console and there are simple ways of doing that and maybe also an important thing to keep in mind is don't do this at the height of example now would be a really bad time to do this because we're probably making a lot of sales during the summer time doing do it during a quiet period when any changes in your impressions or your clicks would not be so harmful to your business there is this is one of the first websites out of all the ones that we've seen when we also get an multi-language user experience and interestingly enough in your mobile version actually it's not available I we cannot really switch into English from the home page but if week so maybe there was a conscious choice by you I guess phaneuf that's also quite that it but if you go back to your desktop experience right and just reload this for a second it loads oh you dropped us a-- cookies you know we're going to stay on this version so mate okay so that's an interesting choice that you do there with the cookie dropping based on the user agent it's a not maybe always the best choice but fair enough it's not particularly helpful but anyway so going back to your desktop experience we see that here in the top right very very small writing it's quite hard to seek for those who want it but it is possible to see the English version of your website and I presume this is because you do get some traffic out from outside of Bulgaria and if you actually if you go to search console and check your search queries analysis report which is one of the first reports you see on the dashboard on the homepage you will be able to actually see how many users how many how many impressions you get in particular countries and how many clicks you get from those countries i spy ginseng in particular for your website as sort of this quite a bit of stuff happening for you in the United States and Germany in the United Kingdom so definitely it makes sense to offer this experience in English in particular since I'm seeing the to your partnering with international big international holiday companies one thing to keep in mind that helps Google tremendously to understand the multi-language structurally website it's to implement something that is called a sharp line marker let me show you for a second a bit of source code don't get very scared by this undead scary oh one thing I'm looking for here ignore everything else but one thing I'm looking for here is a one thing I'm not fine finding it's the HSN mark on the other hand if we look at them if you look at this link at the top right that says bogus key right which leads users to your Vulgarian homepage we can inspect that element right quickly and actually see the code for the element there it is quite simple right so it's the title is bogus key it's a nofollow link there's no particular reason to keep it not followed by the way and there's a relative URL right so it says that the Bulgarian version lives here so you'll meet the name of the web page that's fine that's great to do and then you give us the address its l / BG GG so what you want to do is in the code for your website you want to add to that a tag to this link you want to tag this link with HR flanked with an attribute in this case Bulgaria right and do the same but reverse on your Bulgarian page saying hey this is the link to my English version with their tribute English that will this is already understandable to Google but the hreflang markup really helps us to understand the multilingual structurally website and we're going to see a couple of other websites in particular the ones in czech republic and slovakia which have czech and slovak versions but also are the ones in the region which cater to a multilingual audience this is a really neat small thing for you to do to help Google understand what you guys are trying to achieve let's take a look if are you have any questions for us about that okay well not at the moment so maybe we can move on to the next one and we have would be great if you we have a third person with us yeah we have a third person who asked and frome is the coding website basically oh yes all that SK first of all thank you it's a great website and also the thing about this is that we really don't have enough content in languages other than English dedicated to creating web experiences the Slovak check Russian Hindi Indonesian whatever you like so first of all thank you for doing this for our small and your slobber can check users this is tremendous this is also to keep it up let's take a look at them what we're actually seeing here its vote ah well okay so first two easy questions is that same same point source of two easy issues to look at same points is for the previous website think about implementing HTTPS think about because you've got both a slow leak and the check version and from what I've seen they pretty much mirror each other think about using edge of thank as well and you guys should know how to do that also I'm pointing at the screen I realize you don't actually see me right now do you but anyway I'm pointing at you the one additional thing that I'd like you guys to consider is that I've mentioned search console already before maybe a couple of times today it's a great set of tools reports and feedback options for website owners web designers SEO agencies and so on the track the performance of the website in Google search it also allows you to adjust certain things and to tell Google a couple of things about your website recently we've introduced a great new feature that allows you to track the performance in search of sets of web resources so for example in your case you not only have a Slavic and uncheck version but I've also noticed that you have well actually when in fact let's even just stop there for a second you have the both the slovak and the check versions of your websites living on parallel domains so you have the slower website one ski and you have the check website on sees a bright and they're very similar also side note we are doing a reasonable job understanding between czech and slovak but given that those languages can sometimes be very similar and you know it to sell there's a lot of words that are almost the same or the same please help us a little bit verifying that but for you on the search console side you can join both of them as a set and then track their performance so impressions clicks CTR positions addresses from different countries and different devices and so on together right so you can still do it separately you can still look at the individual performance but i think particularly in your case would be really really interesting to see and compare like how many check users are coming to the slower website how many islamic users are coming to the check website are they aware what queries are they using our we've on the other hand understanding correctly the queries for your website in czech and slovak are we sending users to the correct version of your website so you can see a lot of that from the joint report for both of your websites and if you see problems in an area and if stuff doesn't look right to you and if you notice irregularities in that i do encourage you to visit one of our webmaster forums probably the Englishman would be great for you but I mean you can try our polish website if you are polish forum if you speak that language but maybe just take a look at the ones that we have available on google.com / webmasters and you know but if on the other hand if you don't see any irregularities you just keep using that information I would find it really really interesting for you and others watching us today who have either different versions of their website like dub dub dub and non dub dub dub or a separate mobile domain or you know any other combination of websites that you'd like to track do avail yourself of this new ability to track sets of websites to get my own the condo yeah hi I think we have a question no no let's just mistake ok no worries well but I mean if you do have a question of any kind any of you guys with us now feel free to jump in at any point where like about a good how far more nobody else joined so I think we're just going to go through the listen yes as we had we have you actually have fun two people here let me join us and I hang out I mean if they're watching us yeah of course I mean there was schmutz yeah so what you can serve the movie travel agencies that we have we have I want from Romania let's do that let me turn on the screen sharing again picture again and then is it the maria de maria mande offering various package tours and charter flights as well to all the sunny destinations oh yes no but it's sunny in Dublin we don't want to hang on so a couple of points quickly already that have been mentioned before they can look at using TLS right you are a commercial website you are conducting transactions you need to have your users on a secure connection you do have some issues with the speed with which your homepage and other pages on your website loads to throw it in the PageSpeed insights and get those recommendations and maybe even verify your said you already have your website verifying suchness also jump in there and get a report on the you know on some of the issues with the block resources or the mobile friendliness all your pages if you have the speed figures in many of that one thing I we have covered that much before and is interesting is you obviously have a lot of images on your website right great pictures from holiday destinations some regional somehow may be taken from somewhere else in any case this is awesome content this is in fact in your vertical I believe content that kind of makes or breaks sometimes a website because people make these decisions but sometimes like me in a robotic fresh fashion just going through the cities in the north medical order but a lot of people really want to feel the place that they going to first and for example me seeing this picture of the beautiful beach and the sunset already kind of makes you want to go there a little bit so it's great to have this content on your website it's even better if you make this content available and understandable for Google crawler boats right the ones that come to your website and try to understand what is it that you have one of the great things to do here is to take a look at three things first of all make sure that the names of the images that you use have some sort of a min ich will be fine crawling them even if they just called one two three XYZ but it'll be much easier for example for this image we would have I don't know wherever it is it's a blue Lula and see exactly what it was some sort of a last-minute offer I don't know last-minute offer beach destination something like this right just something describing it more or less in a way that will allow us to understand it and then show it in English search results another thing you could do is definitely use alt descriptions for your images so if we get if we do the same simple thing on your career inspect this picture will see exactly what it is called right and it's in fact here its last minute literal or menu that's great but and it does have a non description which is Chara avion Gracia for some reason interesting I don't know is it particularly relevant is it to Greece I didn't dig in much deeper into this particular one you might want to do that and the rest of your watching us as well take a look at what are using as image names take a look at what I using as our descriptions do they make sense are they really describing what's going on with the image would they allow Google to drive the correct impressions and traffic to this particular image and finally not vegetable especially those of you who already have search console verified those of you who'd done please verify you can use it to submit your sitemap write your XML sitemap let me show you what it looks like so i hope you already have it and it's in the regular place normally looks like this let's go stand the place to find the site map right as well so it is it is there it does exist and it is likely that Google knows about this way does this file but just to make doubly sure that Google does know about this far this is baked is the list of all the URLs on your website and gets updated by your CMS automatically so lets us know about any changes in your condo about any new content it is great to just upload this to search consult and insertion so you can do this with a couple of pics of the button just let us know where it leaves I'll make sure that we know about it come back to it regularly and make sure that we know about all your new and fresh cultural sites like yours in particular where new stuff and offers their last minute offers coming through all the time when new URLs get created definitely there will be something would recommend hiding moving on to echo lines yeah what are the girls do have a website it's basically they also sell out people at your toes yeah there is a 10 33 throttle travel websites you know so it's a hotel tourism fiestar Bulgarian approval right so we have a couple of interesting things here to take a look at first of all good job with the HTTPS connection good choice well done second of all you've chosen a dotnet domain for your website which is great absolutely not problems with that having a top-level TLD is absolutely not an issue be aware that you can what you can do is you can help who will understand the structure of your website so the different different language options that you have any website i think you have english and hope somehow switch on the website maybe not so easily but that's actually not so bad because I mean you've detected that I'm coming from Dublin's make subtle sense to show me English content well it is you can verify it not just the home page of your website if you have you combine in fact in any case you can verify any subsection and any subfolder your website search console and if you have your site set up like you do with the name and then dot TLD you can also target subsections of your website the particular region so you can tell Google this subsection of my website is intended for English users this subsection is intended for German users Bulgarian uses whatever we can live without it we'll try our best to understand what you guys are doing anyway but it does give us a hint and it does help a little bit what else to say I've seen oh yeah and we had this question quite a bit so you guys are not very active and submitting your sort of questions about the websites in advance I hope as you get more used to this format will start getting more questions from future submissions but you guys did not mention to us and many of you did some of the queries that you would like to rent and the trend that I've noticed when looking at these queries that you suggested was a lot of them are quite long ish when a three four words maybe longer maybe not so obvious even if they're short any kind of thinking is okay so what are you trying to do she it seems like you're saying oh my god you know this is really lucrative this is what I would normally get through my adwords keyword spread and this is normally the kind of stuff that i would buy edwards for maybe and this is what i would like to rank for it's one approach it's definitely some it's definitely a way in which you can think about organic search one thing I would try doing and maybe see if that helps you as well it's try thinking about the other side of the coin in the case of this website and all of you watching us you have and other websites today also do have as well quite a few what we call navigational queries so people are aware of your brand name and are searching for you already in Google with your name like they associate your name of your service with the service itself so that for example your users know or maybe friends of your users know that eco lines is a place you would go if you want to get the discount tickets international tickets comfortable tickets and so on and that is something really really precious there is something a lot of businesses offline and online really struggle to do to get this sort of brand recognition to get this sort of user Wales so don't knock it and capitalize on this what i would do is in fact this go back to search console look into that search queries analysis report and try to understand which pages rank for those brand queries under what circumstances from mobile desktop maybe somebody now build some graphs take a look at the data may be really dig deep into that and what sort of experience are you offering those users right so they're coming to you looking for your brand name are you offering the correct shortest path from point of entry to conversion on your website in this particular case I think you are doing a great job right you have the buy ticket button straight there ups for up and center your first thing I see when the store boom first thing that I see on the web page even before everything else loads then you have your special offers right up there so these are really good practices that I would really encourage other websites of this kind to adopt think about how do you convert people who don't just randomly come to your website and whom you still need to convince to work with you but how do you confront people who already know your brand and want to see your website for a particular service how do you get them from entering the converting as easily and as quickly as possible you do have a couple of technical issues that probably worth taking a look at oh and well done actually I've seen that you had some major flank issues but you actually fixed them recently so well done there and if other guys have questions how to fix this maybe you know hospice guys just kidding but you what you still do seem to have here is that if we try to load the dub dub dub version it's the last time I checked of your website yeah it still seems to be the case you see how we stayed there I change the address to the www.aqualoja.net and nothing changed so maybe take a look at remember at the beginning of our meeting one of our session I've mentioned how one of the guys is actually set it up correctly the correct thing here would be to redirect the users either to one version or the outlook pick one set up a 301 redirect let Google know about it to search console and just stick to it you know to avoid any additional confusion and another point and maybe here we can take a look at that enough could be interesting for some people as well another small technical element I'm not sure I mean it hopefully your crack Nico specialist is going to be looking at this as well if not show them the video send the link look at the robots.txt file for your website you'll see that there's actually there's a lot of stuff in here like you seem to be so you have a lot of language directors in Bulgarian and belarusian and estonian laughing and so and so and so on and within each of them a whole bunch of technical subfolders i excluded you have modules any of the includes so that looks like maybe a wordpress based website to have a lot of those familiar themes streets a lot of stuff is disallowed a lot of stuff on your website our robust section and robertson bada search engines cannot reach this app interior point might not be a pond but at some point it might cause us issues and understanding what are you trying to do so if there are resources on your website or if the way you know the way your page displays depends on scripts or tables available inside one of those directories we might not be able to understand and if you're not able to understand the different angle able to render the content of your web page we might not able to rank you for that content not because it's some sort of a penalty of any kind but just because we don't see it right so double check again why exactly are you disallowing all that stuff and if there are no compelling reasons I would revisit it maybe stop doing let's move to the next website with qatari yes it's basically online music and instrument store I'm some anything from qatar qatar son bronx to lighting antigen equipment https for you guys as well we've mentioned before having an images sitemap your own e-commerce shop with a lot of really rich image content please let us know about it in the best way possible in your case like in the case before we saw our webpage where image names made some sense in yours is one of the cases where a lot of the images are just letters and numbers revisit that especially because you guys specialize in it looks like from the stuff you're selling it's not some of it is really specialist stuff really interesting brand names that I no idea what they offer especially it's probably do introduce those names people looking for particular brands in particular models will be finding your stuff and images and saying that's exactly what I was looking for that's exactly the cool guitar that I saw at my friends place and I want one yeah so don't mock that and one of the probably for you an interesting recommendation that can also be applied to other websites and we've seen that with the coding website the whole Czech Slovak idea one thing I haven't mentioned is that not only you can use sets in search console to view your websites together what you also can do is when you're implementing hreflang right so far we've only been talking about HSN within a website so the different sections are your website have different languages then you can link between them and let people know about this what I haven't mentioned is that you can use this across domains so it doesn't matter that you are for example at your slower version if i'm not mistaken mr. space leaves on but escaped and your check version is on dots easy that's fine that's great you could as long as you link between them which I think you do you can annotate that link the same way with hreflang and that will be a great help for us to understand the relationships and the connections between this website in particular in the context of the language of the users coming moving else's we have about 15 minutes left so the next one is from hungaria at terra cotta and they are doing flooring from inside I don't want to be doing flooring I want to go on a holiday by back immediately well one thing we could but this is good if you like to take a holiday right you go somewhere and at the same time you get somebody else to update your whole flooring since when i call my power yeah so you guys you should partner up with some of those holiday websites I didn't throw some sort of a deal on this so in in the flooring beckoning and out of following anything the same and I'll keep mentioning this until you get tired of it commercial websites guys switch to https wherever you know it's important for everybody even if you're just a traveling block but if you're buying and selling stuff definitely use secure connections uh it's you've mentioned one of the queries and let's take a look at this we haven't done this before so let's take a look at this now let's take a look at what your website looks like in searches all right so we can do it if you haven't done this before it's very simple search operator you can use called site so you decide semicolon or a sorry sight colon or the two dots just do your website's name and you get a picture a sample of what your website looks like in search results couple of disclaimers here right you have a number at the top that some people mistakenly focus on this has about 5,000 results in some sort of seconds I don't pay attention to that time but really means very little in this context if you want to see more or less the number of the web pages index from your website go to search console indexing status you'll get the real number that right so this one don't really mind it another point so the way the search result looks I hope most of you know but let's just run through this very quickly the top blue thing at the top is the title then the smaller green thing below that is that so URL and the grayish sort of that great thing even the motor is the description how are titles and descriptions for titles and descriptions are formed based on a number of signals we look at some of the stuff that exists on your page itself you have the title tag in your head section you have a description right there as well we also look at things like headings on your page just the text on your page we look at the links coming to your page look at the whole bunch of other stuff we look at the query itself and because we look at the query itself not always looking at the side column query allows you to see what a user might see for a particular query because it will depend quite a bit so you might want to see actually check in your search console which queries your website ranks for and then use those queries and then see what descriptions entitles you have but this is just to give you a sort of an idea of how to check and what to look out for any many kids looking at the descriptions for your website you can see here for example with a lot of them are the same right you can see that for one of the pages is just the same sort of list of words which I presume just coming from your menu and then we pick up from the top of your page and that's all now I don't know what it's going to look like and we're going to check in a second for a real query for real user query but you might imagine that this is not the most compelling experience on the web on the search results to draw your list the user already knows your brand and wants to visit your particular website oh my god look I don't really know what I'm getting from this page and not really surely there's a list of what's here but what is the proposition what is the value proposition here so you might want to think about their descriptions a little bit in the same way that you think about the descriptions in your ads they are attracting the user to click on your link as opposed to the links of everybody else so pay them some love you know give them some attention one of the queries that you guys seem to be interesting in what's this I presume it's in sort of a brand that people would know or snow was it from I didn't at the front oh no no they don't seem to be finding anything in the side says but that's also why we can just do this with this duo you can also do the track you can just do your site name and a particular work with your interest you and you will probably find stuff sort of both from your website and relate it to this to this word i'm not seeing exactly what i wanted to see but basically i think when looking through a website in preparation for this and i found about four different pages related to this word again there might be reasons for this I confess I don't speak Hungarian number once I had to rely on google translate a lot and that might not always be the best option but take it another look and see does this really make sense do you really want to be having several pages dedicated to a particular product as opposed to consolidating the user experience to just a few there might be particular might be great business reasons for having 1 million different landing pages for the same product that's if that's what you're doing consciously great on the other hand if that's not a decision that you made on purpose and it's just something that randomly happened that might be a thing you want to revisit just to consolidate stuff little bit not to spread yourself too thin in particular on queries on products that you're really interested oh ok yeah so basically have another website it's outside of the skates from Slovakia again and this is marketing agency one of marketing agencies marketing and web development agencies well you have it just up there in awt mom when they open up the guys are working on web development and online marketing result in flugel adwords and some social media's role they have a very impressive portfolio of the current clients yeah just one that's doing all right you guys you guys build web pages so let's talk about yours the first great thing obviously is that you have HTTPS implemented but and then Graham really also no but they can look at this example now you will see if you open this website that the lil what I whatever is the little icon to the left of the website of the web page doesn't turn green that means there's something going on with that certificate that it's there something's weird so I hope you seeing what I'm saying right now so if you click on that it says that your connection to this side is private but someone on the network might be able to change the look of the page right so you wanna again not going to recommend any particular services google so https certificate validation services online throw your certificate in there and take a good look at what's going on right and why is it's not considered to be a a proper certificate like what's wrong with this one really it's awesome that you thought about implementing this and that's all you're like ninety percent of the job done just make sure you got the ten percent of it done as well and that your certificate is working as intended yeah there's a particular there's an interesting thing going on as well not going to jump into the entire technical details of that but again you can do that you can verify this through bed by various means you can see some of that in the search console you can see some of that using developer tools when I web page loads in developer tools you can click on network right here right and just reload the page and you'll see everything that loads as the page test another the bottom we have a consult with the bunch of every port let me make it slightly bigger so you see this I mean probably on your screen still looks a bit small you can easily check this on your own computer you see there's a big red cross warning about mixed content but the page itself was loaded on HTTPS but it requested and insecure stylish shape and here for example you are referring to some Google API is fonts I'm not entirely sure I would hope that these are available over an HTTPS connection so maybe take just take a look into updating updating that and then I also see that you are requesting some resources from your own website on in the wp-content upload section right and that's an image which is the log on you probably just haven't updated that but since you before making a switch from HTTP to HTTPS you probably just kept that link to your logo and maybe something else I'd see the whatever there's an action up there as well and it just stayed like that the general recommendation for all websites in particular for websites on a secure connection is your so called relative URLs so protocol and even website relative URLs so that's the safest way to ensure that all your links always go to the default version of your website which is secure and avoiding mistakes like this will also actually make sure that we treat your website has properly secured properly serving over HTTPS there is another issue that we haven't discussed for other websites before and it's probably something in particular for mobile users but also before all your users including desktop users a very important thing to take a look at as sir just under some new bridge will not exist in the dress into the address bar and see what happens and lechita would start to load some stuff and then we ended up on your homepage I just really saw what we're trying to do we're trying to go to some an existing home an existing page imagine somebody was linking to a particular product or on your website that you no longer for a service imagine somebody just made a small mistake in the way the link into your website and they user clicks on that and lens on your homepage or they land on this home page from our google search results that were supposed to lift a particular DPR up it will be a really confusing experience right it'll also a resin a reasonably confusing experience for our robots who get all these different URLs that all end up having in the end the same content because you're showing us the content on your homepage it can cause all sorts of different issues you're not going to go into all the particular details of this but the recommendation here would be set up proper 404 pages make sure that your server returns a 404 error and at the same time that the 404 error returned to the users is handy it contains you know maintains your website's design contains links to your homepage so the users are aware that this particular link was incorrect and in fact if it's another web beside all and linking to you they can correct the link to the right one but they can use as they can still continue navigating on a website so that would be the big recommendation here to take a look at how your 404 pages are setup let's don't maybe one more website uh yeah before we shut it down well let's choose the one that's what the recipe one the recipe one where is it well the you that we use i'm not sure where this from but it's very tasty it's good oh yeah okay good yeah it's a recipe website and yeah basically one guy is doing I don't agree to have any commercial content as such there is no transaction based I pages but I am this is just recipe website you can find a lot of Asian work from quick from what I can see on a main page a lot of yummy recipes that you can also save and use a it all and yes now the reason I wanted to take a look at this website a 2 1 i'm getting hungry the other is that yeah okay all right the other is that we can also i want to say might look like we had a bit of a bias for czech and slovak based websites there was as all selected randomly it looks like our Czech and Slovak guests were a lot more active than everybody else and submitted a lot of websites so you know its probability next time guys give us more websites from your place but here hopefully for all of you this is language agnostic and you just getting useful advice that you can implement in any case and what I wanted to talk about here because this was the only recipe website in the whole selection it gives us a great opportunity to focus on a couple of things that we haven't had a chance to talk about before there's a thing called down structured markup and I'm not going to go into all the details about it but you might have seen this before when you're looking for I'm in here for example we have japanese noodles right so let's take a quick look and Google search results for Tiffany's nodoz and I'm doing this in English so it's easy and fast and you get it take a look at what comes up you see all this you know potentials things that could happen like we have an up top a special card with a lot of really in-depth information and an image and down below we have recipes with user ratings right and cooking times and sometimes here you can also get ingredients and you can get all sorts of interesting additional information that Google can surface straight in the search results using structured markup on your nerves so what I would do is I would recommend you to do is Google Rich Snippets and structured data and see how it can be implemented on your website in particular for recipes and the things that you would definitely be able to surface are your images right especially from what I've seen on the website a lot of this stuff you've done looks like yourselves which is great this is organic unique sort of continent nobody else has and really draws people into wanting to interact with your content so you will be able to surface them directly in the search results and in particular for mobile users you know how it is like you don't have that much space on the on the screen and seeing something yummy and taste you when you're looking for recipes standing in your kitchen where you don't even you're gonna drag your foot it two inch monitor into your kitchen unless I don't know what you think but you know you'd normally be there on your maybe smaller screen smartphone maybe definitely want to be really up there close to your users there and the other thing you've heard us mention this quite a lot today the search can solve it this is one of the few websites that wasn't verified in search console only alongside maybe a couple of others so I'm very happy to see that the majority of you are aware this combination of tools that we offer you those of you who are not verification takes a couple of minutes is really easy if you have some sort of question about it you can always come to our forums and ask us but hopefully you fly through this to do a failure self of it and if you implement which snippets on my website not only will they show up in a great way to our users in search results and to your potential visitors as well you'd also be able to track both any errors that might emerge but also the usefulness of this results through search concern I think this is largely all that we have time for today and know that we wanted to talk about so you know unless the guys who are here with us how many questions we might not say goodbye

the question  and we are life and I'll address the question just in a second let's kick off the broadcast and you can type maybe in the chat in the middle anyway so here we are and this is their third life m site lab that we are conducted for you the first one in English hopefully going to go great and we'll get lots of interest from you all we've had quite a few submissions in advance and we have selected quite a few websites to take a look at we have some people within the audience with us already so that's great this is  she's an AdWords account manager and this is andre you said master ablation strategists will be looking at the websites that were submitted in advance trying to provide some practical tips on how to make them a little bit more mobile-friendly a little bit more secure a little bit more relevant for your users hopefully those tips will be interesting for you the recording will remain on the webmasters youtube channel those of you watching us live I welcome to maybe ask additional live additional comments and maybe ask questions on the G+ page for this event I presumed us how you found us those of you who've joined we have three guests since to be right now that's also can obviously ask follow-up questions in our chat as well you're very welcome to do that and I think that I board had a question thank you i don't have any questions the now ok great awesome what great having you guys so um right let's let's give it a shot well as i said we'll start with the websites or the people who are in the studio with us Valley board correct me if I'm wrong but I think your website is the is the opponent's couple dots easy right yes yes great ok so I'll put it on the screen share it with everybody y'all still use so everybody knows what the hell we're talking about and what's going on and hopefully we can go from there right so we're looking at that all online loans website so let's go I don't think we had any questions in advance from the labor of his colleagues about this website so i presume you know the obvious looking to solve any particular issues but you did leave us a couple of queries that you would be interested in we'll come back to that in a second but another thing I should have said in the beginning we're not going to look at all the issues for all the websites is going to get quite boring very quickly right so what are we going to try to do is we're going to focus on some issues for every website on different issues not hopefully for every website allowing everybody who is watching us who's joined us to understand all the possible things that could be improved and maybe take a look at them for their website as well right so yeah to be aware of everything that could go wrong but also to get specific advice for your own website as well here in the sample of the websites that we looked at it seems for us particularly interesting to take a look at the page speed lower kinds of the website page speed is on the one hand one of the ranking factors for Google search so we do look a little bit at how fast pages are loading when we're deciding which pages to show to our users in the search results but that shouldn't be your primary concern your primary concern should be that our research not just our research shows that users do tend to prefer fast loading websites and a lot of the time they abandon websites that download a lot very slowly how can you check that there's plenty of different ways of checking the speed of your website as as a whole or of your pages in particular one of the tools that we've developed for you is PageSpeed insights hopefully you're seeing it on your screens right now can enter it doesn't analyze the whole website that's important it analyzes whatever page you give to it in this case we started with the homepage by the way before we begin to the problems and the way is to dress down I want to say we're really impressed overall with the quality of the websites submitted for the cycling majority of the websites out of all the 300-plus submissions that we had a really high you're really interesting all of them had something unique to offer so that's really great to see it's really inspiring the issues that we find is is as I told my colleagues before this again you can find issues with any website any website everywhere always have some sort of an issue so us addressing particular problem doesn't mean that oh my god the website is horrible and it's not going to rain oh it's not going to be high quality the fact that we found an issue doesn't mean that it's in a poor state it just means that there are some things you could still improve in this case let's talk a little bit about your speed particular through this tool you can check the speed for both desktop and mobile but we're going to focus primarily on the way this is seen by mobile users the tool allows you the tool gives you specific remedy recommendations it gives you a number here right which you shouldn't probably pay that much much attention to the more important thing other three ranges of the rebbe the orange and the green green being great orange being not so good and red being pay attention to this stuff and then what you also get is not you're not only get a breakdown of the issues you could fix but you also get specific recommendations and the games you will have if you follow these recommendations for example the first one we see here is enabling compression and then you have specific scripts as you can see if case you have a couple of images I see some SVG is here I see some Java scripts in fact I see your homepage here just the basically the basic HTML on the page and it tells you exactly how much volume you could say by compressing this and as you can tell it's in this particular case it's over 2.7 mix on a standard 3g connection this much data could take seconds to download potentially dozens of seconds but at the very least upwards of five this is because this could become a critical make a break point for your users who are just loading this for the first time don't have any of your content cash and have to load all the resources and there's some fairly easy tricks in at least compressing the JavaScript and here you see that the lightest gains the sort of the 1.3 mags and 1.1 max the really big gains come from your JavaScript and you can look up a few easy tutorials or easy tools to minify your JavaScript online and just use that you can hide these details and look at a couple of other things that are reasonably easy to use let's look at some of the stuff in the orange section right for this particular website it might not be such a big deal but with we're going to see a couple of others today and in general a lot of websites a lot of e-commerce websites use quite a few images on their webpage so another not least significant element that could bring a lot of economies in size is image optimization so again here you don't just get a line saying oh going up to my dream just you get a breakdown of the specific images loading on this page that you could work on to make them slightly smaller gaining back but a bit of quite a bit of time in loading the page so here this were really some of the key elements that we've found for the website that we wanted to talk about on the plus side some of the really good stuff really the recommendations that you manage to follow quite well I don't know what they were reading our recommendations or whether you just did it the right way anyway but it's great and I'd like to point this out for other people to think about as well as number one you guys have implemented HTTPS so I know you are a financial service so it seems like a no-brainer but you will be surprised how many financial services still don't implement secure connections it's definitely something that we recommend to everybody who exchanges crucial private data with the users but also in general to everybody else it is also great to see I'm going to show it to you director that you've avoided so you've chosen a version of your website with the www to appear as the primary one and when we enter your website without it it redirects us to the proper that the dubbed version so that's an important piece to set up correctly and you've done it and that's great so we see directly in the browser window both that the redirect happens well and also in chrome in particular but also other browsers you can really easily detect if your certificate for the https has been detected as valid and correct right if you click on that green section to the left of the address you'll get some information about the certificate and the connection in this connection is private so those two things in particular setting up the redirects between the different versions of your website and using a secure connection are really great and that's really great for your users both mobile and desktop devices and your users on any kind of class unless the other one has questions I think we could move one maybe to the next website I'm seeing something in chat no nothing at the moment all right so don't hesitate by the way guys guys for with us don't hesitate to just turn on your mic and ask a question at any point i think the other website that we had here within the next website that we had here was a Vulgarian website about travelling astral travels and seeing a strap on a strong holidays right website your beautiful pictures well you know the word isn't so bad and up in our lot of you anyway you know so we'll see did I where is it let me assure us Joe yeah was let's open it as well what's open mobile Europe okay great I did have it open sand wedges I a deficit right so also something I didn't mention before even if you haven't if you don't understand what the hell am i doing and then what am i doing in particular in chrome how am I getting this screen if you haven't seen this before these are so called developer tools you have them in chrome you have them in Firefox you have them in the majority of Modern advanced browsers who support this they allow you to do a lot of very interesting things but in particular in this instance they allow you to emulate the experience of mobile users on the website so you can launch developer tools and you can go into a mobile emulator the particular here it's real easy it's just one click of a button and you go from a desktop experience the mobile experience and without even having a mobile device with you although I don't know who doesn't these days you could much more much more easily sort of look at your website the way of mobile user so i highly recommend getting familiar with this even if you know they develop or even if you're just a website oh no or the marketing specialist for the website gives you a great opportunity to see what changes in your mobile experience are happening how they're happening and so on so the first thing that strikes me and again this emulator is not perfect so you might want to double check this particular each issue on am on a mobile on them on Election smartphone but I sure if you look at this this is slightly weird right what we see on the homepage right so we can if we don't really see the content of the website on the menu right so maybe you want to take a look at that from usability point of view again it's not a major thing that's going to affect your ranking or anything but it's definitely something I will try to figure out why is it displayed like this why is all of your content post below the fall below the first screen so something to keep in mind and again as I said checking the way your website works on an actual smartphone or even in the emulator is definitely something you need to do now and again just to make sure that you avoid see the small things like this we have a couple of other things right then we've noticed about this particular page so I'm going to be loaded once again just to make sure that we're not missing anything I'm thinking write that on the second load we actually got redirected to your m dot website and i remember now and this was an interesting point that your for some reason on the first load that version didn't know so just to gay again make sure that the way you've set up your redirects and normally a couple of options you can do here it's totally fine to have a separate website for mobile for example on a subdomain like m dot that's great google sees that Google understand that now what you really need to be careful with is how you send people from one version to the other and there are different ways of doing this basically you want to be looking at the user agent coming in we want to see what sort of user agent it is what you really need to make sure is that the list of user agents that you're focusing on is comprehensive and covers all the devices so you do need to pay attention to that so for example you're not forgetting three direct iOS users right or Android users or something like this and really read up on this and cover your bases we have a quite a bit of information about this on the developers website developers google com so make sure that you got this thing going directly because here now with the redirect where should you see a website displayed quite differently see all your text has become larger the buttons on large everything is much more clear to see it's optimized for the mobile experience right there's not that much here in addition that you would need to do and in fact if you haven't actually shown the guys the store so maybe it's no now it's a good time if you put this web page and you put it into our mobile friendly testing tool which leaves at G that call / mobile friendly you would also see that it passes all our assessments and does it correctly an interesting thing here to do will be not just to put your m dot website but also to put your main home page to make sure that the redirects also fall directed by our tools not gonna wait for this to finish the load we're going to get a nice green result saying that everything is everything is fine and everything is working i'll make sure it's loaded all right so great we see the correct version here we're saying awesomeness pages mobile-friendly an interesting point here is that we see that the few resources have been blocked in this I mainly images that I'm seeing that are being blocked from crawling by Roberts of different but in this particular case but Google's robots it doesn't really make much sense you know it makes sense for Google at services JavaScript to be blocked and form a different javascripts of other heads ad networks and analytic tools but you blocking your own resources on your own website such as images or the scripts and the tables that you use to create the content on your side will display the content on your website doesn't really make that much sense in this particular case it doesn't harm the evaluation but it might so I might want to take a look at your robots.txt and make sure that the stuff that you are disallowing from being crawled actually makes sense right and is there for a good reason and not just because it's a legacy from you know some previous site manager who put it there for no particular reason what I would definitely address here is then again this is not a financial services website unlike the other one but this is a service provision website so here you're definitely engaging users and trying to get them to conduct the transaction potentially a financial transaction or commercial transaction pay you money basically so it is really a good idea to start thinking about implementing transport layer security which will then allow your website to display on HTTPS protocol it is it can be free you can pay for a certificate but they're also free certificates Google does not care if your certificate is paid or free as long as it's valid and there's plenty of online services that allow you both to get a certificate and to check the validity of your city so again I'm making a big point of this because it was a big thing on desktop it is becoming an even bigger thing on mobile more and more of our additional features more and more of our and not only our but also other Internet companies and Internet services features de pensar depending on secure connections so rather now than later would be a good time to switch if you are switching think about doing it in stages think about switching pass at your website first to see that everything works great remember to tell Google about the switch in search console and there are simple ways of doing that and maybe also an important thing to keep in mind is don't do this at the height of example now would be a really bad time to do this because we're probably making a lot of sales during the summer time doing do it during a quiet period when any changes in your impressions or your clicks would not be so harmful to your business there is this is one of the first websites out of all the ones that we've seen when we also get an multi-language user experience and interestingly enough in your mobile version actually it's not available I we cannot really switch into English from the home page but if week so maybe there was a conscious choice by you I guess phaneuf that's also quite that it but if you go back to your desktop experience right and just reload this for a second it loads oh you dropped us a-- cookies you know we're going to stay on this version so mate okay so that's an interesting choice that you do there with the cookie dropping based on the user agent it's a not maybe always the best choice but fair enough it's not particularly helpful but anyway so going back to your desktop experience we see that here in the top right very very small writing it's quite hard to seek for those who want it but it is possible to see the English version of your website and I presume this is because you do get some traffic out from outside of Bulgaria and if you actually if you go to search console and check your search queries analysis report which is one of the first reports you see on the dashboard on the homepage you will be able to actually see how many users how many how many impressions you get in particular countries and how many clicks you get from those countries i spy ginseng in particular for your website as sort of this quite a bit of stuff happening for you in the United States and Germany in the United Kingdom so definitely it makes sense to offer this experience in English in particular since I'm seeing the to your partnering with international big international holiday companies one thing to keep in mind that helps Google tremendously to understand the multi-language structurally website it's to implement something that is called a sharp line marker let me show you for a second a bit of source code don't get very scared by this undead scary oh one thing I'm looking for here ignore everything else but one thing I'm looking for here is a one thing I'm not fine finding it's the HSN mark on the other hand if we look at them if you look at this link at the top right that says bogus key right which leads users to your Vulgarian homepage we can inspect that element right quickly and actually see the code for the element there it is quite simple right so it's the title is bogus key it's a nofollow link there's no particular reason to keep it not followed by the way and there's a relative URL right so it says that the Bulgarian version lives here so you'll meet the name of the web page that's fine that's great to do and then you give us the address its l / BG GG so what you want to do is in the code for your website you want to add to that a tag to this link you want to tag this link with HR flanked with an attribute in this case Bulgaria right and do the same but reverse on your Bulgarian page saying hey this is the link to my English version with their tribute English that will this is already understandable to Google but the hreflang markup really helps us to understand the multilingual structurally website and we're going to see a couple of other websites in particular the ones in czech republic and slovakia which have czech and slovak versions but also are the ones in the region which cater to a multilingual audience this is a really neat small thing for you to do to help Google understand what you guys are trying to achieve let's take a look if are you have any questions for us about that okay well not at the moment so maybe we can move on to the next one and we have would be great if you we have a third person with us yeah we have a third person who asked and frome is the coding website basically oh yes all that SK first of all thank you it's a great website and also the thing about this is that we really don't have enough content in languages other than English dedicated to creating web experiences the Slovak check Russian Hindi Indonesian whatever you like so first of all thank you for doing this for our small and your slobber can check users this is tremendous this is also to keep it up let's take a look at them what we're actually seeing here its vote ah well okay so first two easy questions is that same same point source of two easy issues to look at same points is for the previous website think about implementing HTTPS think about because you've got both a slow leak and the check version and from what I've seen they pretty much mirror each other think about using edge of thank as well and you guys should know how to do that also I'm pointing at the screen I realize you don't actually see me right now do you but anyway I'm pointing at you the one additional thing that I'd like you guys to consider is that I've mentioned search console already before maybe a couple of times today it's a great set of tools reports and feedback options for website owners web designers SEO agencies and so on the track the performance of the website in Google search it also allows you to adjust certain things and to tell Google a couple of things about your website recently we've introduced a great new feature that allows you to track the performance in search of sets of web resources so for example in your case you not only have a Slavic and uncheck version but I've also noticed that you have well actually when in fact let's even just stop there for a second you have the both the slovak and the check versions of your websites living on parallel domains so you have the slower website one ski and you have the check website on sees a bright and they're very similar also side note we are doing a reasonable job understanding between czech and slovak but given that those languages can sometimes be very similar and you know it to sell there's a lot of words that are almost the same or the same please help us a little bit verifying that but for you on the search console side you can join both of them as a set and then track their performance so impressions clicks CTR positions addresses from different countries and different devices and so on together right so you can still do it separately you can still look at the individual performance but i think particularly in your case would be really really interesting to see and compare like how many check users are coming to the slower website how many islamic users are coming to the check website are they aware what queries are they using our we've on the other hand understanding correctly the queries for your website in czech and slovak are we sending users to the correct version of your website so you can see a lot of that from the joint report for both of your websites and if you see problems in an area and if stuff doesn't look right to you and if you notice irregularities in that i do encourage you to visit one of our webmaster forums probably the Englishman would be great for you but I mean you can try our polish website if you are polish forum if you speak that language but maybe just take a look at the ones that we have available on google.com / webmasters and you know but if on the other hand if you don't see any irregularities you just keep using that information I would find it really really interesting for you and others watching us today who have either different versions of their website like dub dub dub and non dub dub dub or a separate mobile domain or you know any other combination of websites that you'd like to track do avail yourself of this new ability to track sets of websites to get my own the condo yeah hi I think we have a question no no let's just mistake ok no worries well but I mean if you do have a question of any kind any of you guys with us now feel free to jump in at any point where like about a good how far more nobody else joined so I think we're just going to go through the listen yes as we had we have you actually have fun two people here let me join us and I hang out I mean if they're watching us yeah of course I mean there was schmutz yeah so what you can serve the movie travel agencies that we have we have I want from Romania let's do that let me turn on the screen sharing again picture again and then is it the maria de maria mande offering various package tours and charter flights as well to all the sunny destinations oh yes no but it's sunny in Dublin we don't want to hang on so a couple of points quickly already that have been mentioned before they can look at using TLS right you are a commercial website you are conducting transactions you need to have your users on a secure connection you do have some issues with the speed with which your homepage and other pages on your website loads to throw it in the PageSpeed insights and get those recommendations and maybe even verify your said you already have your website verifying suchness also jump in there and get a report on the you know on some of the issues with the block resources or the mobile friendliness all your pages if you have the speed figures in many of that one thing I we have covered that much before and is interesting is you obviously have a lot of images on your website right great pictures from holiday destinations some regional somehow may be taken from somewhere else in any case this is awesome content this is in fact in your vertical I believe content that kind of makes or breaks sometimes a website because people make these decisions but sometimes like me in a robotic fresh fashion just going through the cities in the north medical order but a lot of people really want to feel the place that they going to first and for example me seeing this picture of the beautiful beach and the sunset already kind of makes you want to go there a little bit so it's great to have this content on your website it's even better if you make this content available and understandable for Google crawler boats right the ones that come to your website and try to understand what is it that you have one of the great things to do here is to take a look at three things first of all make sure that the names of the images that you use have some sort of a min ich will be fine crawling them even if they just called one two three XYZ but it'll be much easier for example for this image we would have I don't know wherever it is it's a blue Lula and see exactly what it was some sort of a last-minute offer I don't know last-minute offer beach destination something like this right just something describing it more or less in a way that will allow us to understand it and then show it in English search results another thing you could do is definitely use alt descriptions for your images so if we get if we do the same simple thing on your career inspect this picture will see exactly what it is called right and it's in fact here its last minute literal or menu that's great but and it does have a non description which is Chara avion Gracia for some reason interesting I don't know is it particularly relevant is it to Greece I didn't dig in much deeper into this particular one you might want to do that and the rest of your watching us as well take a look at what are using as image names take a look at what I using as our descriptions do they make sense are they really describing what's going on with the image would they allow Google to drive the correct impressions and traffic to this particular image and finally not vegetable especially those of you who already have search console verified those of you who'd done please verify you can use it to submit your sitemap write your XML sitemap let me show you what it looks like so i hope you already have it and it's in the regular place normally looks like this let's go stand the place to find the site map right as well so it is it is there it does exist and it is likely that Google knows about this way does this file but just to make doubly sure that Google does know about this far this is baked is the list of all the URLs on your website and gets updated by your CMS automatically so lets us know about any changes in your condo about any new content it is great to just upload this to search consult and insertion so you can do this with a couple of pics of the button just let us know where it leaves I'll make sure that we know about it come back to it regularly and make sure that we know about all your new and fresh cultural sites like yours in particular where new stuff and offers their last minute offers coming through all the time when new URLs get created definitely there will be something would recommend hiding moving on to echo lines yeah what are the girls do have a website it's basically they also sell out people at your toes yeah there is a 10 33 throttle travel websites you know so it's a hotel tourism fiestar Bulgarian approval right so we have a couple of interesting things here to take a look at first of all good job with the HTTPS connection good choice well done second of all you've chosen a dotnet domain for your website which is great absolutely not problems with that having a top-level TLD is absolutely not an issue be aware that you can what you can do is you can help who will understand the structure of your website so the different different language options that you have any website i think you have english and hope somehow switch on the website maybe not so easily but that's actually not so bad because I mean you've detected that I'm coming from Dublin's make subtle sense to show me English content well it is you can verify it not just the home page of your website if you have you combine in fact in any case you can verify any subsection and any subfolder your website search console and if you have your site set up like you do with the name and then dot TLD you can also target subsections of your website the particular region so you can tell Google this subsection of my website is intended for English users this subsection is intended for German users Bulgarian uses whatever we can live without it we'll try our best to understand what you guys are doing anyway but it does give us a hint and it does help a little bit what else to say I've seen oh yeah and we had this question quite a bit so you guys are not very active and submitting your sort of questions about the websites in advance I hope as you get more used to this format will start getting more questions from future submissions but you guys did not mention to us and many of you did some of the queries that you would like to rent and the trend that I've noticed when looking at these queries that you suggested was a lot of them are quite long ish when a three four words maybe longer maybe not so obvious even if they're short any kind of thinking is okay so what are you trying to do she it seems like you're saying oh my god you know this is really lucrative this is what I would normally get through my adwords keyword spread and this is normally the kind of stuff that i would buy edwards for maybe and this is what i would like to rank for it's one approach it's definitely some it's definitely a way in which you can think about organic search one thing I would try doing and maybe see if that helps you as well it's try thinking about the other side of the coin in the case of this website and all of you watching us you have and other websites today also do have as well quite a few what we call navigational queries so people are aware of your brand name and are searching for you already in Google with your name like they associate your name of your service with the service itself so that for example your users know or maybe friends of your users know that eco lines is a place you would go if you want to get the discount tickets international tickets comfortable tickets and so on and that is something really really precious there is something a lot of businesses offline and online really struggle to do to get this sort of brand recognition to get this sort of user Wales so don't knock it and capitalize on this what i would do is in fact this go back to search console look into that search queries analysis report and try to understand which pages rank for those brand queries under what circumstances from mobile desktop maybe somebody now build some graphs take a look at the data may be really dig deep into that and what sort of experience are you offering those users right so they're coming to you looking for your brand name are you offering the correct shortest path from point of entry to conversion on your website in this particular case I think you are doing a great job right you have the buy ticket button straight there ups for up and center your first thing I see when the store boom first thing that I see on the web page even before everything else loads then you have your special offers right up there so these are really good practices that I would really encourage other websites of this kind to adopt think about how do you convert people who don't just randomly come to your website and whom you still need to convince to work with you but how do you confront people who already know your brand and want to see your website for a particular service how do you get them from entering the converting as easily and as quickly as possible you do have a couple of technical issues that probably worth taking a look at oh and well done actually I've seen that you had some major flank issues but you actually fixed them recently so well done there and if other guys have questions how to fix this maybe you know hospice guys just kidding but you what you still do seem to have here is that if we try to load the dub dub dub version it's the last time I checked of your website yeah it still seems to be the case you see how we stayed there I change the address to the www.aqualoja.net and nothing changed so maybe take a look at remember at the beginning of our meeting one of our session I've mentioned how one of the guys is actually set it up correctly the correct thing here would be to redirect the users either to one version or the outlook pick one set up a 301 redirect let Google know about it to search console and just stick to it you know to avoid any additional confusion and another point and maybe here we can take a look at that enough could be interesting for some people as well another small technical element I'm not sure I mean it hopefully your crack Nico specialist is going to be looking at this as well if not show them the video send the link look at the robots.txt file for your website you'll see that there's actually there's a lot of stuff in here like you seem to be so you have a lot of language directors in Bulgarian and belarusian and estonian laughing and so and so and so on and within each of them a whole bunch of technical subfolders i excluded you have modules any of the includes so that looks like maybe a wordpress based website to have a lot of those familiar themes streets a lot of stuff is disallowed a lot of stuff on your website our robust section and robertson bada search engines cannot reach this app interior point might not be a pond but at some point it might cause us issues and understanding what are you trying to do so if there are resources on your website or if the way you know the way your page displays depends on scripts or tables available inside one of those directories we might not be able to understand and if you're not able to understand the different angle able to render the content of your web page we might not able to rank you for that content not because it's some sort of a penalty of any kind but just because we don't see it right so double check again why exactly are you disallowing all that stuff and if there are no compelling reasons I would revisit it maybe stop doing let's move to the next website with qatari yes it's basically online music and instrument store I'm some anything from qatar qatar son bronx to lighting antigen equipment https for you guys as well we've mentioned before having an images sitemap your own e-commerce shop with a lot of really rich image content please let us know about it in the best way possible in your case like in the case before we saw our webpage where image names made some sense in yours is one of the cases where a lot of the images are just letters and numbers revisit that especially because you guys specialize in it looks like from the stuff you're selling it's not some of it is really specialist stuff really interesting brand names that I no idea what they offer especially it's probably do introduce those names people looking for particular brands in particular models will be finding your stuff and images and saying that's exactly what I was looking for that's exactly the cool guitar that I saw at my friends place and I want one yeah so don't mock that and one of the probably for you an interesting recommendation that can also be applied to other websites and we've seen that with the coding website the whole Czech Slovak idea one thing I haven't mentioned is that not only you can use sets in search console to view your websites together what you also can do is when you're implementing hreflang right so far we've only been talking about HSN within a website so the different sections are your website have different languages then you can link between them and let people know about this what I haven't mentioned is that you can use this across domains so it doesn't matter that you are for example at your slower version if i'm not mistaken mr. space leaves on but escaped and your check version is on dots easy that's fine that's great you could as long as you link between them which I think you do you can annotate that link the same way with hreflang and that will be a great help for us to understand the relationships and the connections between this website in particular in the context of the language of the users coming moving else's we have about 15 minutes left so the next one is from hungaria at terra cotta and they are doing flooring from inside I don't want to be doing flooring I want to go on a holiday by back immediately well one thing we could but this is good if you like to take a holiday right you go somewhere and at the same time you get somebody else to update your whole flooring since when i call my power yeah so you guys you should partner up with some of those holiday websites I didn't throw some sort of a deal on this so in in the flooring beckoning and out of following anything the same and I'll keep mentioning this until you get tired of it commercial websites guys switch to https wherever you know it's important for everybody even if you're just a traveling block but if you're buying and selling stuff definitely use secure connections uh it's you've mentioned one of the queries and let's take a look at this we haven't done this before so let's take a look at this now let's take a look at what your website looks like in searches all right so we can do it if you haven't done this before it's very simple search operator you can use called site so you decide semicolon or a sorry sight colon or the two dots just do your website's name and you get a picture a sample of what your website looks like in search results couple of disclaimers here right you have a number at the top that some people mistakenly focus on this has about 5,000 results in some sort of seconds I don't pay attention to that time but really means very little in this context if you want to see more or less the number of the web pages index from your website go to search console indexing status you'll get the real number that right so this one don't really mind it another point so the way the search result looks I hope most of you know but let's just run through this very quickly the top blue thing at the top is the title then the smaller green thing below that is that so URL and the grayish sort of that great thing even the motor is the description how are titles and descriptions for titles and descriptions are formed based on a number of signals we look at some of the stuff that exists on your page itself you have the title tag in your head section you have a description right there as well we also look at things like headings on your page just the text on your page we look at the links coming to your page look at the whole bunch of other stuff we look at the query itself and because we look at the query itself not always looking at the side column query allows you to see what a user might see for a particular query because it will depend quite a bit so you might want to see actually check in your search console which queries your website ranks for and then use those queries and then see what descriptions entitles you have but this is just to give you a sort of an idea of how to check and what to look out for any many kids looking at the descriptions for your website you can see here for example with a lot of them are the same right you can see that for one of the pages is just the same sort of list of words which I presume just coming from your menu and then we pick up from the top of your page and that's all now I don't know what it's going to look like and we're going to check in a second for a real query for real user query but you might imagine that this is not the most compelling experience on the web on the search results to draw your list the user already knows your brand and wants to visit your particular website oh my god look I don't really know what I'm getting from this page and not really surely there's a list of what's here but what is the proposition what is the value proposition here so you might want to think about their descriptions a little bit in the same way that you think about the descriptions in your ads they are attracting the user to click on your link as opposed to the links of everybody else so pay them some love you know give them some attention one of the queries that you guys seem to be interesting in what's this I presume it's in sort of a brand that people would know or snow was it from I didn't at the front oh no no they don't seem to be finding anything in the side says but that's also why we can just do this with this duo you can also do the track you can just do your site name and a particular work with your interest you and you will probably find stuff sort of both from your website and relate it to this to this word i'm not seeing exactly what i wanted to see but basically i think when looking through a website in preparation for this and i found about four different pages related to this word again there might be reasons for this I confess I don't speak Hungarian number once I had to rely on google translate a lot and that might not always be the best option but take it another look and see does this really make sense do you really want to be having several pages dedicated to a particular product as opposed to consolidating the user experience to just a few there might be particular might be great business reasons for having 1 million different landing pages for the same product that's if that's what you're doing consciously great on the other hand if that's not a decision that you made on purpose and it's just something that randomly happened that might be a thing you want to revisit just to consolidate stuff little bit not to spread yourself too thin in particular on queries on products that you're really interested oh ok yeah so basically have another website it's outside of the skates from Slovakia again and this is marketing agency one of marketing agencies marketing and web development agencies well you have it just up there in awt mom when they open up the guys are working on web development and online marketing result in flugel adwords and some social media's role they have a very impressive portfolio of the current clients yeah just one that's doing all right you guys you guys build web pages so let's talk about yours the first great thing obviously is that you have HTTPS implemented but and then Graham really also no but they can look at this example now you will see if you open this website that the lil what I whatever is the little icon to the left of the website of the web page doesn't turn green that means there's something going on with that certificate that it's there something's weird so I hope you seeing what I'm saying right now so if you click on that it says that your connection to this side is private but someone on the network might be able to change the look of the page right so you wanna again not going to recommend any particular services google so https certificate validation services online throw your certificate in there and take a good look at what's going on right and why is it's not considered to be a a proper certificate like what's wrong with this one really it's awesome that you thought about implementing this and that's all you're like ninety percent of the job done just make sure you got the ten percent of it done as well and that your certificate is working as intended yeah there's a particular there's an interesting thing going on as well not going to jump into the entire technical details of that but again you can do that you can verify this through bed by various means you can see some of that in the search console you can see some of that using developer tools when I web page loads in developer tools you can click on network right here right and just reload the page and you'll see everything that loads as the page test another the bottom we have a consult with the bunch of every port let me make it slightly bigger so you see this I mean probably on your screen still looks a bit small you can easily check this on your own computer you see there's a big red cross warning about mixed content but the page itself was loaded on HTTPS but it requested and insecure stylish shape and here for example you are referring to some Google API is fonts I'm not entirely sure I would hope that these are available over an HTTPS connection so maybe take just take a look into updating updating that and then I also see that you are requesting some resources from your own website on in the wp-content upload section right and that's an image which is the log on you probably just haven't updated that but since you before making a switch from HTTP to HTTPS you probably just kept that link to your logo and maybe something else I'd see the whatever there's an action up there as well and it just stayed like that the general recommendation for all websites in particular for websites on a secure connection is your so called relative URLs so protocol and even website relative URLs so that's the safest way to ensure that all your links always go to the default version of your website which is secure and avoiding mistakes like this will also actually make sure that we treat your website has properly secured properly serving over HTTPS there is another issue that we haven't discussed for other websites before and it's probably something in particular for mobile users but also before all your users including desktop users a very important thing to take a look at as sir just under some new bridge will not exist in the dress into the address bar and see what happens and lechita would start to load some stuff and then we ended up on your homepage I just really saw what we're trying to do we're trying to go to some an existing home an existing page imagine somebody was linking to a particular product or on your website that you no longer for a service imagine somebody just made a small mistake in the way the link into your website and they user clicks on that and lens on your homepage or they land on this home page from our google search results that were supposed to lift a particular DPR up it will be a really confusing experience right it'll also a resin a reasonably confusing experience for our robots who get all these different URLs that all end up having in the end the same content because you're showing us the content on your homepage it can cause all sorts of different issues you're not going to go into all the particular details of this but the recommendation here would be set up proper 404 pages make sure that your server returns a 404 error and at the same time that the 404 error returned to the users is handy it contains you know maintains your website's design contains links to your homepage so the users are aware that this particular link was incorrect and in fact if it's another web beside all and linking to you they can correct the link to the right one but they can use as they can still continue navigating on a website so that would be the big recommendation here to take a look at how your 404 pages are setup let's don't maybe one more website uh yeah before we shut it down well let's choose the one that's what the recipe one the recipe one where is it well the you that we use i'm not sure where this from but it's very tasty it's good oh yeah okay good yeah it's a recipe website and yeah basically one guy is doing I don't agree to have any commercial content as such there is no transaction based I pages but I am this is just recipe website you can find a lot of Asian work from quick from what I can see on a main page a lot of yummy recipes that you can also save and use a it all and yes now the reason I wanted to take a look at this website a 2 1 i'm getting hungry the other is that yeah okay all right the other is that we can also i want to say might look like we had a bit of a bias for czech and slovak based websites there was as all selected randomly it looks like our Czech and Slovak guests were a lot more active than everybody else and submitted a lot of websites so you know its probability next time guys give us more websites from your place but here hopefully for all of you this is language agnostic and you just getting useful advice that you can implement in any case and what I wanted to talk about here because this was the only recipe website in the whole selection it gives us a great opportunity to focus on a couple of things that we haven't had a chance to talk about before there's a thing called down structured markup and I'm not going to go into all the details about it but you might have seen this before when you're looking for I'm in here for example we have japanese noodles right so let's take a quick look and Google search results for Tiffany's nodoz and I'm doing this in English so it's easy and fast and you get it take a look at what comes up you see all this you know potentials things that could happen like we have an up top a special card with a lot of really in-depth information and an image and down below we have recipes with user ratings right and cooking times and sometimes here you can also get ingredients and you can get all sorts of interesting additional information that Google can surface straight in the search results using structured markup on your nerves so what I would do is I would recommend you to do is Google Rich Snippets and structured data and see how it can be implemented on your website in particular for recipes and the things that you would definitely be able to surface are your images right especially from what I've seen on the website a lot of this stuff you've done looks like yourselves which is great this is organic unique sort of continent nobody else has and really draws people into wanting to interact with your content so you will be able to surface them directly in the search results and in particular for mobile users you know how it is like you don't have that much space on the on the screen and seeing something yummy and taste you when you're looking for recipes standing in your kitchen where you don't even you're gonna drag your foot it two inch monitor into your kitchen unless I don't know what you think but you know you'd normally be there on your maybe smaller screen smartphone maybe definitely want to be really up there close to your users there and the other thing you've heard us mention this quite a lot today the search can solve it this is one of the few websites that wasn't verified in search console only alongside maybe a couple of others so I'm very happy to see that the majority of you are aware this combination of tools that we offer you those of you who are not verification takes a couple of minutes is really easy if you have some sort of question about it you can always come to our forums and ask us but hopefully you fly through this to do a failure self of it and if you implement which snippets on my website not only will they show up in a great way to our users in search results and to your potential visitors as well you'd also be able to track both any errors that might emerge but also the usefulness of this results through search concern I think this is largely all that we have time for today and know that we wanted to talk about so you know unless the guys who are here with us how many questions we might not say goodbye
